... normally, I can't stand the guy - whenever I see him singing on the box, he reminds me of a constipated lumberjack, but that new single "Radio Nowhere" is a cracking tune.

37 Years in the music business, straight forward rock and folk music, no pretentiousness sh*te, pure lyrics and a great band. thats why everbody (well most!! ) likes Bruce. He's great. Just great. And he is one of the few performers around that still gives 100% every shwo. I ;ve seen him 7 times, ok, there have been a couple of dodgy albums, but then, alot of bands dont even last a couple of albums nowadays...

37 Years in the music business,

    ..just makes him old

straight forward rock and folk music, no pretentiousness sh*te,

like any number of Pub rockers.

    pure lyrics

He's got decent enough lyrics, I'll grant you that.

    and a great band.

they can play, no doubting that.

    still gives 100% every shwo.

    Also admirable.

However, you haven't given me a convincing reason why he seems to be regarded as one of the musical touchstones of our generation. Decent enough blue collar rock. I'm fine with that. Nothing that has me in awe of the guy though or that raises him above the likes of Tom Petty or similar.

He actually means what he sings, have you ever seen him in concert? plus he has managed to touch people for 4 decades and still remains relevant. Look at The Killers, Arcade Fire, Ryan Adams, they have all taken something from the bOss...

seriously go and see him in concert, you wont regret it

I'm sure Gerry Halliwell means it too, doesn't make it good. Nor does it make what you have to say worth saying. To my mind, Springsteens reputation seems to trade largely on "authenticity", that whole "real lives of ordinary folk from Noo Joisey" (though he obviously moved on from those themes). I think people put too much stock in that sort of thing. "Authenticity" is a fairly undefinable concept in music.

Nope, but generally someone would need to impress me on record before I stump up for concert tickets.

plus he has managed to touch people for 4 decades and still remains relevant.

..in the current musical climate that reveres him, which is what I'm getting at in the first place.

    Look at The Killers,

    A fairly average band..

    Arcade Fire,

    Great!

    Ryan Adams

    Talentless charlatan.

I try to keep an open mind, so maybe someday, but even those youtube clips did nothing for me.
