I was. I've been going to Delorentos gigs for about 3 years now and it's kinda nuts to see how far they've come from playing support slots to indifferent crowds yet still blowing whoever they were playing with off the stage.

also, what does hard working mean? Surely that should be taken for granted, and they arent as hard working as a lot of other bands, who try to make their living entirely from music (and no disrespect to Delorentos). Just seems a daft phrase that always pops up.

They are hard working in that they grafted smartly, and this lefty crap of "not like other bands, who try and make their livimg entirely from music"...
shut the hell up. i'm willing to give ye the benefit of the doubt cos your probably in college right?

are you one of these ppl who believe to be the best band around, you have to be "doin it for the music man"...???? and "not earning money...cos thats selling out"...

maybe when you have real living expenses you'll experience real life and the fact that EVERYONE has to make a living.

the lads in delorentos have gigged really hard over the last three and a half years, and unlike other bands who blew it when they got a big record deal...they do it on their own... and just beacause they arent "seen" bolloxed drunk on a thursday, friday and saturday every week in the same fookin venues with stupid bleedin haircuts does not mean they do not deserve it. So before this turns into another "lets bash them because they are makin money" the fact is they are a great band who people like for the most part. best of luck to them.

eh ok man, i have no idea where that came from.

No, im not in college, and yeah i know full well that ya gotsta earn to eat.

My point was, that surely every band is hard working, or they're not putting in the effort. Its a waste of time saying it. How is one band more hard working than another, and why does it matter?

I mentioned other bands that make their living from music... surely they are harder working, (if that is some classification) in the "work" sense of the word in that they gig a couple of times a week, and dont have the luxury to take time off to work on new s**t, which if you have a day job you can afford to do.

I didnt mention once whether the delorentos make money or not, surely the goal of any band is to be able to do it full time for a living, and so what would be wrong with that. I wasnt referring specifically to Delorentos, or you, but just to the fact that a hard working tag seems daft, and unnecessary.

I wish Delorentos all the best, and think any success is fully deserved, i've known em for a few years, and they have gotten consistently and impressively better. I just dont see why, anyone, needs to be labelled hard working.

its me being pedantic, but i've seen it tons of times, in numerous articles, and i always wondered why it needed to be said.

ok, fair enough, i didnt mean hard working in the "kevin kilbane is a hard working pro" sense because i think they have some real talent.

i guess what i really mean is that i think that these guys can genuinely last the pace past one album and not fall at the second hurlde as so many irish acts seem to do....

i do think they worked for their success and perhaps concentrated on the musical output as opposed to getting caught trying to live a "lifestyle" as so many bands do..who then after numerous failed attempts to break it, they moan that its everybody elses fault from hotpress to teh record company to the general public...etc etc...

in my opinion there are 5/6 bands who started around in the last 5 yearswho deserve success based on merit and the fact that the public (who buy the albums) seem to like....along with channel one, stef (solo)and his band, director and the loose i think delorentos are one of them. and if it wasnt for the artic monkeys they would be at number one. which i think is class.

Not a big fan of Delorentos, find their music a bit bland. Heard a few songs from Ham Sandwich and thought they were good though.

actually checked there number 7 in the charts, i still think thats brilliant considering actic monkeys eclipse all other sales this week...if ye look at the rest of the top ten albums they have done pretty well..

i think the album will grow though, there is enough quality on it for radio stations to eek out if they bother their asses

In fairness to Delorentos, they are indeed hard working, but I think they're over-egging the 'doing it on our own' thing, pehaps making a virtue out of a necessity? For me they sound a bit too much like all the other spiky/angular guitar bands around at the moment. And I had to laugh at the review they got in Mongrel. Cruel, but kind of on the money.
