I think I just need to buy more of his already available extensive back catalog before bothering with this!

His 60's/70's stuff is an embarrassment of riches really. Despite releasing one great album after the next, he still left some of his best stuff on the cutting room floor and continued to do so for the past thirty years (though the quality of album and cutting floor fodder has taken a dip). Thats why this collection (and past discs like Decade) is so anticipated.

I have to say, some of Neil Young's last few albums have been great. I thought Living With War from last year was class, and even better again was Greendale from 2003 (I think)!! Definitely has a lot of stuff up his sleeve still.

Although will have to have a gander at the archives.

Like Karlito I have to say I disagree with anyone who says that his recent stuff has been poor. I'm no blinkered Neil Young nut but Living with War was such a great record. Certainly (and very unexpectedly) one of my top albums of last year. "Families" alone was one of the finest sub 3 minutes tracks I have heard in years. eoghan.

I must dig out LWW again. I was disappointed at the time, after a few plays nothing really grabbed me but its been about a year now.

I thought Prarie Wind was a poor mans Comes a Time (and I don't even like Comes a Time that much). Uninspired songs with a plastic production. Greendale was an improvement on the acoustic live show, but still pretty lacking musically. The whole concept gets a bit tedious aswell. It's such a linear story that just doesn't stand up to repeated listens. Are You Passionate (from what I remember) had about two or three decent songs with little else. Also probably one of Neils worst album covers. Silver & Gold was the last NY album I liked.

I certainly wouldn't count him out either. For every musical dry patch (I might be alone here but I believe he's having one!) there's another golden period right around the corner. Maybe this Archives project will remind him how to write good songs again....(sorry, bit too harsh)
