ah yes, only one thing is for certain the promoters are rolling in it, the irish public have been whipped into such an entertainment feeding frenzy, admittedly by good acts, that they'll pay any price for any ticket.
next big thing
intimate show
catch before they become massive
one night only
for the first time in Ireland

I reckon of those I'll go to 7, maybe 8 depending on how good Grizzly Bear are when they open for TVOTR. And that's taking into account the week that I'm going to be out of the country, I assume someone here will be able to top that.
Were it not for clashes it'd be in the double digits and as even though I'd like to see him I'm not paying €30+ for Tweedy solo.
Much as I'm loath to praise Budweiser due to the pisswater they try to pass off as beer but Budrising does result in some great gigs.

Some gRR RReat support bands too:
BEIRUT!! (Calexico)
A Hawk and a Hacksaw (Calexico)
ST VINCENT!! (Sufjan)
Dr. Dog (Tapes)
Fionn Regan (Midlake)
The Thermals are coming too. I've to listen to them.
And Brakes, supported by Tiny Dancers.
I've a feeling the Flaming Lips support will be brilliant.. they've a good history, so if it's up to them to pick, you can set your reliance down.

Yeah, Beirut are brilliant. Don't think i'd be going to Calexico if they weren't playing. Deserve a gig in their own right.

That's my fault, sorry! I was talking to their manager and mentioned that I didn't know which show to go to.. he thought it was a pretty awful clash too, cos most of their fans would probably like Tapes too.. so he got them to support TnT instead.
I'm sure there're still tickets though.. almost the same price.

Still no sign of gigs over here by a number of acts that have been touring recently. I'm thinking along the lines of:
- Cat Power
- Mountain Goats
- SIlver Jews
- Magnolia Electric Co.
- Jay Bennett
- Headphones
- The Format
- Chin Up Chin Up
- Heartless Bastards
- Jens Lekman
- Venice Is Sinking
But then again, it is a cracking list of gigs to choose from.

Agreed-this is an unbelievable run of gigs. And then sitting nicely on the horizon-the Decemberists. But agreed with Gar-just waiting on the Silver Jews and jens Lekman-and I can die a happy man.......

Ya hit some artists i'd love to see there Gar. Particularly Silver Jews (one of my all time favourites), Mountain Goats (Darnielle has got some good live footage up on YouTube but no substitute for the real thing) and Califone.
Still, we are spoiled i suppose.

I'd love to see Cat Power play, apparently she's playing the best shows of her career at the minute and isn't freaking out on stage anymore.

Gar, that man has commentated on ten olympics, nine world cups and every other sports event in the history of man....
he knows EVERYTHING......if jimmy misses a game, he wont be able to tell you the score, but he could tell you the time the players got up this morning and what speed the team buses travelled at on the way to the game.....
this is a dreadful thing to say but i cant resist, what would happen if the silver jews and beirut were on the same bill?

Someone from Indymedia would show up and would spontaneously combust at the sheer excitement of it all. Then blame the silver jews for war atrocities.

Yes,I agree. Magee is 94 years old, has the equivalent of 27 libraries of sporting knowledge in his brain and is an absolute gentleman to boot. Having a pop at Jimmy sees Cluas sink to a new low.

Ah no Jimmy Magee is indeed a legend, but he doesn't really know much about Premiership football to be still working on them. Cheers for the compilment though!
Silver Jews rarely ever tour, but if they made it over here then it wouldn't really matter if Beirut were playing as well because the Silver Jews are top class - Beirut could maybe support David Berman & co.

Silver Jews did a mini-tour (first time on the road in 10 years i think) earlier in the year. Didn't get my arse in gear to get over to London and regret it.

Indeed, where and when?? And, will we still have to listen to him plod his way through his inferior Country rock with second hand nashville journeymen, or has he realised that kids still like to 'rock out' and decided to go back to his first couple of solo efforts??
