Sounds good, I like the idea of a club nme. And might get hotpress to raise their game. The first 3 bands confirmed for this are Humanzi, Dae Kim and Rivals. Entry is only 5.00 on the door. Doors: 8.30pm til late. Guest DJ Trev Radiator plus tbc text from the story ******************************************************************* NME magazine launches Irish edition Iconic music weekly NME today announced its expansion into the Republic of Ireland, with the launch of a dedicated Irish edition of the magazine. The launch will coincide with the opening of Club NME Dublin, a regular showcase for new Irish music. NME Ireland will hit the newsstands with the issue covered dated October 21, and will be on sale on October 18 the day before Club NME Dublin opens its doors for the first time. From today, a special free NME Ireland sampler will be distributed throughout the country. NME Ireland – the only international edition of the magazine – will contain dedicated pages focused on the Irish live music scene, delivering the latest news, features profiles and live reviews from the hottest new acts in the country. The magazine will also be packed with the usual mix of all the best from the UK and international music scene. The free NME Ireland sampler issue features cover stars Humanzi on the set of their new video, in which they let 100 balloon-waving clowns loose on the streets of Dublin. Content for the Irish edition will be provided by new NME Ireland correspondent Steve Cummins. “NME has always been a successful magazine in Ireland, but with such a vibrant live music scene and such passionate music lovers it would be madness not to provide the country with their own magazine,” said NME editor Conor McNicholas. “The Irish edition will be tailored to their favourite home-grown artists as well as featuring the very best from the UK and beyond.” Meanwhile Club NME opens its doors to Dublin’s live music fans for the first time at Voodoo Lounge on Thursday, October 19. The venue will play host to the launch night party, after which Club NME Dublin will take up regular residency at The Hub, on Eustace Street. Club NME Dublin will take place every first and third Thursday of the month with entry priced at €10.

It's nice to see Humanzi giving a nod to NME journalists.

No matter what people think of NME this can only be a good thing for Dublin, we need all the exposure we can get!

Probs be bad for Irish bands looking for exposure in the UK as they'll be put in the Irish version instead of the UK one. But a weekly music mag should be decent

I think the best thing about it will be the likelihood of more Irish tours by bands backed by NME and their sponsors

It might encourage Hotpress to feature some more live reviews of Irish bands (and I'm not talking about U2 in Boston)

that would be great; hotpress could be really something if it woke up and came out of the '80s.

What about a Dublin Melody Maker, now that would be worth a read.

Last time I checked NME's still poop, and I really doubt they'll be able to find enough Irish-specific content, or a large enough audience, to sustain this venture too long.

I think it's great. Cummins is a good writer too. Along with Radiator, Club NME might just ressurect the Hub.

surely skinny wolves is the only hope for the hub? man, that section 25 gig stank... the smell got into everything, even my pint (of which the glass must have been washed in dirty water)

Or it might squeez them out of music and more into the Lifestyle content they've recently been courting.

The main problem with The Hub is its layout, not the most ideal setup for gigs at all. Club NME should be interestin though, will defo be checkin it out

I've never been (but I think I'll head along tomorrow) but that Pandamonium club that's on every second Thursday looks quite cool. Possible conflict of interest, I've got a gig there in a few weeks but that's not why I think it looks cool.

the hub is kind of perfect for a club like this...sound aint the best, but a small crowd can look big in the place and it has the sweaty rock club feel of crawdaddy without the urban outfitters decor...

On the sampler edition of NME, they have Humanzi on the cover with the typically excitable, attention grabbing headline: 'The Day Ireland's biggest band brought Dublin to a standstill' Biggest band??????? Come again? '...brought Dublin to a standstill'. When?? Have I missed something? Anyway, NME is a piece of crap these days. It used to be magnificent in the Eighties and most of the Nineties.I have hundreds of issues in my attic. Nowadays, it reminds of Smash Hits. A sad shadow of its former self and very sad.Their website is excellent though. Can't see the Irish edition lasting that long as 1) We are a tiny country and don't have enough bands, etc to fill eight pages every week and 2)Most of those bands are crap so what's the point?

Hafta disagree here Im afraid. I would look at the website quite a few times a day but theres never anything but pop gossip really on there. Quick look at todays "news headlines": - Madonna adopts baby boy - statement due in next 48 hrs - The automatic rubbish the Horrors - Foo Fighters front man meets up with mine victim

Had a free read, as you do, in Tower yesterday.Awful tripe. A few tokenistic reviews of Irish bands, a short interview with The Blizzards which was mainly made up of the lead singer's abnormal erection after accidenatlly taking Viagra (WTF?), gig listings that you get for free elsewhere....cannot believe this is the same magazine I used to read religiously in the nineties. In an uncharacteristically coherent article in the last Sindo, Declan Lynch did a hatchet job on the NME describing it as the new 'Smash Hits' which I described it as in an earlier posting here. Get your own ideas, Lynch!
