Im going down on Friday morning but i havn't looked at the list yet to see the times, cant view the website in work. I wanna see Mogwai, Jape, Give a man a kick and Redneck Manifesto after that i`ll be happy to stroll around and have a look at anything. I am getting excited now though. Just looking at inflatable matresses in Lidl, they have some camping gear cheap this week if anyone needs some stuff.

I hate to break the bad news but Tapes'n'Tapes are no longer listed in the line up on the website. It looks like they've gone the way of Tom Vek, Os Mutantes and My Morning Jacket.

there are apparently a few extra tents - the big tree stage (damien rice's stage) and another stage (radiator are providing some of the acts), but i'm not sure if they'll be on the main line-up... anyone any clue?
on the EP board they name off lots of bands playing both. should be a some mad feens hanging out in the less well known sections...

Gnarls Barkley has had to cancel their appearance at next weekend's Electric Picnic festival at the last moment. Due to non-stop performances for the last 3 months, Cee-Lo has put a great strain on his vocal chords and has been advised to cancel his next 5 shows or risk having more extensive problems.

Doesn't bother me really, couldn't care less to seem them or not but they say they're having problems finding a replacement ..... Paddy Casey anyone What it will probably mean is that two other acts I wanted to see will clash now, will have to wait for the timetable I suppose.
These last minute cancellations at festivals are becoming quite popluar

Yet another cancellation?? Hmmmmm. An already weak line-up is looking decidedly weaker. I can't go this year but the only essential, unmissable act on the bill that I'm missing is the peerless Mogwai.(No Matter, will see them at Royal Albert Hall in 4 weeks!!!!) Will watch on the telly!
I think they will have to really pull out all the stops to improve the line-up for next year if EP is to survive in already overcrowded summer festival calendar. They need some major league headliners: this year they should have got Depeche Mode for saturday and Daft Punk to round things off on Sunday.

Basically, a lot of bands I want to see:
Tapes, YYY, Rufus, The Boy least likely to, Tilly and the wall, Rapture, Archie bronson outfit, Massive Attack, Pj Harvey, Antony & the J's, Bloc Party, BSS, jIM nOIR, Jape, King Creosote, Russian Futurists, Long Blondes, Coldcut, Hot Chip, Elbow.
That will do me nicely! There are also some more like New Order and The Ricer, how can you say that this is a bad line up.

ah bummer radiator tent is cancelled, thats a great opportunity for irish bands, pity its gone. (oh una, what i had seen (somewhere!) for the radiator tent were the urges, sickboy, maybe the mighty stef, basically a few of the rock solid radiator regulars, such a pity)
as for bands to see, ooooh so many! the skatallites, amadou et mariam, dj shadow, that jape chap, super furry animals, yeah yeah yeahs, yo la tengo, and on and on and on!

eh mar, you might be better off getting off the aercoach in abbeyleix and getting a taxi across to stradbally. the heath isn't much use as you'll have to try and hitch from there which could be tricky. you could have a nice pint in morrissey's in abbeyleix (really nice olde-style pub) and ask there for taxi/cab numbers. enjoy!

That Virgin Megastore Balloon sounds great, I guess queues will be massive, don't think i'd queue at the expense of missing bands though.
Mar: You can get the aircoach to Portlaoise, taxis from Portlaoise to the EP seem to be a standard €20, there are shuttle buses running to the site from Portlaoise train station €7 each way. There is a private coach running from Cork to the site but it is a bit pricey at €60. Alternatively a return train ticket Cork to Portlaoise is €45.

Shame about the radiator tent. there will still be some independent bands playing the festival, such as neosupervital, Tadgh Cooke and ourselves, Delorentos, in the Big Tree Stage. Not sure if the times are going to be on the offical program, so we're on at 3.15 on saturday if anyone is interested.
enjoy the festival!

well the first EP was held on the warmest day of the year that summer, traditionally September is a good month in Ireland. Its not like having a festival in June guarantees good weather! (flashbacks cold, wet and miserable Saturday at Oxegen and biblical floods at Glasto last year)
Apparently the problem this week is that around Wednesday timeframe we are getting hit with the tail end of tropical storm Debbie bringing wind and rain but maybe that'll have cleared off by the weekend. In reality we'll probably have to wait until at least Wednesday for a more accurate forecast, i've my fingers crossed.

Thanks! His myspace seems to say Friday, but I'm guessing he just didn't have more accurate info then. Hope it doesn't clash with Hot Chip though. Think they're playing Sunday.

The Skatalites - Legendary Jamaican Ska band, going since the 50s, probably best known for "Guns of Navarone" and their cover of the James bond Theme as featured many a Trojan compilation
Metro Area - NY disco punk, if you like DFA type stuff. "Orange Alert" is probably their most high profile track, and its brill
Modeselektor - One of many fantastic artists on the Berlin based electro/techno label; bpitchcontrol. http://bpitchcontrol.de/artist/2/54
No idea about the rest, to hell with being "in the know" anyway, I know what I like, if someone turns me onto something I like, all the better, but this "keeping up" lark isn't worth the effort. Not so much "lost my edge" as "gone completely fuzzy"

Francois K is a super cool dj that has played at studio 54 and paradise garage way back when. A lot of people are very excited about his appearance.
Tiesfwar are ok, double dj act, but they've played here a few times this year so wouldn't be too pushed on seeing them.
Fish go Deep are dj duo from cork, or at least became well known in Sir Henry's for their set.
Bodytonic and sterotonic run nights in Rogue. really good promoters.
SFA bingo, no idea but super furry animals perhaps?

Crazy P - formerly Crazy Penis, big band dance music, wild apparently
Charles Webster - house producer
Spankrock - fat bassy booty shaking hip-hop/dance crossover
Messiah j and the expert - respected irish hip hop
pendulum - dnb act
minotaur shock - decent electronica
corrugated tunnel - irish electro
dancepig - techno/electro
tilly and the wall - us indie act with tap dancing for percusion
dublin gospel choir - a gospel choir from dublin

Didn't SFA do this in Whelan's once. They had a load of their songs numbered on a board and they brought a bingo machine.
Anyhoo whatever bingo number came out, they'd play the song next to the corresponding number on the board.
I think I just went a very round-about way of explaining something simple. You get the idea though.

SFA bingo, no idea but super furry animals perhaps?
Didn't SFA do this in Whelan's once. They had a load of their songs numbered on a board and they brought a bingo machine.
Anyhoo whatever bingo number came out, they'd play the song next to the corresponding number on the board.
I think I just went a very round-about way of explaining something simple. You get the idea though.
Yep and it was a great gig too, I'll hopefully be catching this acoustic set and their full set at EP.
Don't really know or am not really interested in much else on that list but don't miss Tilly & The Wall either, they're gonna be great live.

For a start, thanks to some freshly unearthed draconian legislation, all bars on site stop serving at ten. That's no fun.

dont think u'd need a parking ticket..as all tickets are camping anyway!, last year i just parked in the aloted field, ended up sleeping in me car due to the lateness of getting a ticket.
so cant see any problems this year!

it's being policed a bit more vigourously this year. The DS are going to be there from thursday, there's a court on site for summons's and stuff, and secret shoppers are trying to snuff out anyone selling illicit booze. So be vigilent.
But ignore me, i'm just a moany cassandra. It'll probably all be grand.

Yeah it says on the site to be carefull about buying tickets as all tickets will be scanned on the way in.
As for parking i parked in there last year and there was no hassle and no ticket needed.
Is this through about the drinking stopping at ten???
Someone told me a good idea was to get a 2litre box of wine and take it out of the box and place it in a handbag, they generally only feel the bag and you have your wine for the day. Last year my girlfriends bag never got searched so we just brought in our own drink to the venue, the security seemed really nice aswell, all from scotland i think.

Gardai issue travel advice to Electric Picnicers this weekend
Gardai have warned those travelling to Electric Picnic that there will be no access into the campsite site before 9am, Friday 1st September.

The Garda Traffic Management Plan for the Electric Picnic will come into operation at 9am on Friday 1st September 2006. Under no circumstances will patrons be allowed entry to concert site prior to this time."
For details on how to get to the festival check out www.electricpicnic.ie and www.aaroadwatch.ie

Is it too much hassle to rip a stub off these days ?
This scanning of tickets plays into the hands of touts. A perfectly good looking, legitimately purchased ticket, is useless once scanned.

Depends how you look at. Means that you haven't got a hope of getting in with a fake ticket. Knowing that, are you willing to buy a ticket off a tout that may or may not be legitimate?
I'm not. Which may result in less business for the touts thus less touts buying tickets.
Hopefully.
I really like the line up, good mixture of bands.

maybe not, people might be slower to buy tickets from touts now
On another note The Boy Lest Likely aren't on that timetable hopefully its just an omission.
What time do reckon most people will there for, I hate getting to a campsite late when its nearly full, i hope to get there for 12, I'm told a lot of Dubs are on half days and won't be coming down till after lunch

I didn't get searched once last year. Every time their was a break between acts I'd go back to my tent, fetch two cans and stuff them into the back pockets of my jeans. Then I'd simply tie my jumper around my waist to conceal my cans and walk back into the concert area. It worked every time.

sorry but would pet shop boys not be playing the main stage rather than the electric arena? are the stages mixed up? not a personal view as to they should be playing main stage rather than the YYY's but just punter numbers i thought would dictate they play the main stage, especially given the size of their show? getting more excited, now all i need is a ticket!

Line up is looking very tasty in terms of how the stage times break down for me.
Some stage choices seem strange all right, but the better the act on the smaller the stage the better.

Originally I thought they were main stage headliners but Basement Jaxx are obviously considered the bigger draw and are the main stage. Weird how that second stage ends so early Sunday night on the timetable yesterday they were running 10:40 to 12:00 which I thought would have made more sense

3 Day Weather Outlook:
"The weather will continue very unsettled through the rest of the week and over the weekend but overall mild a lot of the time with temperatures probable a little above normal. Mild on Thursday night with clear periods and showers.
Windy on Friday with sunny spells and scattered heavy showers and after a mild humid start it will turn cooler and fresher as the day goes on. Becoming wet Friday night and early Saturday through Munster and Leinster with widespread heavy rain for a time but brighter elsewhere with some sunny spells and scattered showers and brightening up also in the south and east during the afternoon.
Becoming humid and close on Sunday, there will be some dry bright periods in places but overall a lot of cloud with rain at times much of it light."
Ponchos all round then!!

I'm going, hellz yeah, but funk me, Saul Williams and The Rapture clash with one another. Although at least I can finally get to see Basement Jaxx. I've never made time for them before, but I really want to see them live now.

The Saturday line-up on the Foggy Notions stage is quality, except The Things should swap stage times with Psapp.

Im starting to dread the toilets again, does anyone know if using Immodium for three days is wise, even maybe just two days because they`ll be clean on friday with a bit of luck.

Last year they were really bad, its the morning thats the problem before they open the venue. Last year i was in a queue for a tiolet on the sunday morning and a girl just opened one and got sick before she even entered. I left the queue :-)

blokes piss everywhere. You can't blame girlies for doing the same. Both are gross though.

Totally agree. Blokes were doing likewise too, of course. Blokes can, and do, piss when and where they like-it was a pity the fairer sex had to stoop to the same level cos the toilet facilities were not up to scratch.

maybe they should sell limited edition Electric Picnic nappies, so people can just piss at their leisure and dispose of them at the end of the weekend.
The only good thing about VIP areas at festivals are real toilets. The luxury...

These P-Mates are gonna be available for girls at this years picnic, they sent out a mail a good while back about it. It should ease congestion at the portaloos anyways.

I've seen far too many manicured hands covered in urine after using the p mate. Tis a mighty shame.
Follow me around ep, i've this amazing talent for picking spotless toilets without a drop of liquid on the seat.

You obviously haven't been backstage at Glastonbury. Pissed Scottish music journalists talking s**te about Kasabian really know how to wreck a toilet.

Very little options on saturday night 12-2 opposite Groove Armada, not much interest in seeing them really plus they seem to play every barn in the country at the drop of a hat. Whats with all the special guest stuff in the Big Tree tent no doubt it'll its like something from eyebrowy.com, heres glen, kitser and damien.....I presume Swell Season is Glen with your one from the solo album? I see Paul Noonan is also doing a solo set, does he have solo material?

yeah doubt that very much, according to the timetable sent out by Electric Picnic there is no replacement just an act less on that stage and it finishes earlier. It means Pet Shop Boys and Yeah Yeah Yeahs now overlap the two acts I most wanted to see, damn Gnarls Barkly

I thought i had found a space in the schedule for food but then i realised Warlords Of Pez are playing:-(
