Didn't see the Dublin gig, but I was at their Shepherds Bush gig last Thursday, and the crowd went nuts then as well. I'm glad to see they're as funny onstage as they are on their website!

nah, the album is really good after a few listens. Total house party music. More grunge than emo.

EMOTIONAL ROCK dude introspective lyrics with heavy guitars, an indie version of American punk, I suppose. It's generally an East Coast genre. Stuff like Fugazi is a big influence, and other post punk like Mission of Burma. It kind of became widespread in the mid-90s with Jimmy Eat World, but it's one of those genres that keeps changing, and is quite hard to categorise. Perhaps best done by Taking Back Sunday, Coheed and Cambria (prog emo), Funeral For A Friend, Fall Out Boy, Alexisonfire (screamo) Now it has kind of become almost insulting as in "they're a bit too emo for me" often characterised by skinny boys, fringey haircuts, ironic tatoos. Seth Cohen in the OC is preppy emo

not quite, but you're getting there. Emo is an often slagged genre, but it's also a very progressive and experimental one. Alexisonfire are excellent, and Coheed and Cambria are probably as off the wall and musically fantastic as At The Drive In. They've practically created their own mythology. If you're looking for a catch-all taste of it, essential emo tracks for me are: Brand New: Me V Madonna V Elvis Taking Back Sunday: 180 By Summer Death Cab For Cutie: The New Year Alexisonfire: .44 Calibre Love Letter Straight From My Heart Coheed And Cambria: Devil In Jersey City Funeral For A Friend: Streetcar My Chemical Romance: I'm Not OK (I Promise)

Good point. If some members of the audience went squirrels, that would cancel out the nuts because obviously the squirrels would start eating the nuts . But what happens if the band are so exciting that the squirrels themselves go nuts. Do they start eating each other? Eventually there would be nobody left and We Are Scientists would be left playing to an empty venue. It's a tricky one alright.

I guess thats why squirrels don't go to gigs and when they do they aren't let in. Thanks for clearing this up its bothered me for some time.

The majority of music venues have a strict 'no-squirrels' policy. It seems harsh but it's for their own good. They'd see nothing anyway, if they were allowed in.

had a great nite in the village last nite. thought the Long Cut were superb as usual. not into we are scientists in the slightest though. and the inter song banter annyoned the shi*e outta me. had a good ol' mosh though nonetheless! una you're right about the emo thing - i lived in the states for a bit and so many kids are freakishly religous about it. don't get it at all myself tho.

Mission Of Burma would (should?) batter the heads off of all Emo bands with their guitars. They're playing ATP next month too, can't wait.

"That's when I reach for my revolver" is one of the greatest songs ever written. Loads of great bands came out of New England in the 80's, seems like it was a real hotbed.

Yeah he did. It's on 1996's Animal Rights album. You can listen to a sample here; http://mp3.juno.co.uk/MP3/SF5435-01-02-02.mp3
