Ever think of what happened to a certain band? Or what a certain musician has been up to? Who are the most infamous people to just slip from mainstream attention to not being heard of again?
I heard this Dublin singer/songwriter last years called Colm Lynch but haven't heard anything about him since. Anyone know if he is recording?

What about musicians who should fade into seclusion ?

good idea though! just for the discussion it would generate,
i'd like to nominate coldplay, oasis, and (shudder) the Stereophonics
man the stereophonics are essentially a boy band now, "oooh the Killers are doing well, we'll write a song like them, oooh we're incredibly boring and lack any creativity", ugh!

Shaun Ryders problems have actually been financial. He hasn't been earning any income for the last couple of years because of some really dodgy contract he signed with his former management. Its all sorted now and he'll be able to earn money from any new material he produces (but not his back catalogue) so I expect we will hear something from him soon. Some live dates at the very least.

Yes, doing every drug in sight does hit the old financials somewhat.

Well yeah, but not in the way you'd think. Its not so much supporting a huge habit, apparently the whole crux of the case is that his managers got him out of his head on "recreational pharmaceuticals" and then presented him with the contract to sign. He lost the case, but settled the dispute in the end.
He's surely kicked the habit now? or at least kicked back on previous excess? I don't think he would be still alive if he hadn't!

apparently he's had a number (5 if memory serves) of those stomach blocker things put in, (they make you sick whenever you take drugs-ish) but had them all taken back out, i would be very surprised if he was clean. He may not be a crack head anymore, but to be honest that wouldnt surprise me. He did write some good lyrics though, and he brought Bez's dancing to the world, and that's no bad thing

I've got this weird hunch that 'Chinese Democracy' is actually going to be a masterpiece!
Can you imagine after all the stick Axl has got, he just pulled out a f**kin great album? That would be amazing!
Here's hoping.
I miss G&R :(
Most people fade away when they get s**t or addicted, which is pretty obvious.

No, he just "liked the way the swastika looked" or something, he was into all that eastern stuff as I recall and a version of the symbol is used in one of the religions over there.

the swastika was a symbol in ancient Rome, don't know about eastern symbolism.
Anyway, he seemed like a twat, although 'Hush' was a good song.

Actually, it figures both in Hinduism and Buddhism and is a symbol for good luck. Any entry level warlock would know that.

Was thinkin about all those Britpop/rock bands a few days ago. I used to watch the ITV chart show in the mid 90s and you'd often see the new video by Headswim or Rialto or Symposium, etc. There's a looong list of bands and singers from that time who've disappeared off the face of the earth, leaving only second hand Shine compilations in their wake...

There was a cracking Dublin band knocking around in the late 80's / early 90's called Scale The Heights, then renamed themselves to The Beekeepers. If memory serves me correctly the lead singers name was Dave Carroll.
If anyone knows what became of them I'd love to know. I spent many a happy night in thrall to their REM - esque power pop at the Baggot Inn and other long gone relics of Dublin's rock heritage.

the swastika is a buddhist symbol for peace (ironically enough!) you can see it all over the place in many buddhist countries, nepal, tibet etc, it takes a bit of getting used to though. The reverse swastika is also a symbol for the Bon religion, if you really want to know it determines which way they circumnavigate holy objects, so the buddhists will always go counter clockwise.
and thats daragh's table quiz question of the day!

Some of symposium, who were great live (imho), are in (nu)metal band 'hell is for heroes'
I have an ep by an irish band called the asteroids that was ace but nothing since that.
English band 'Delakota' released a great debut about 5 years ago, a middlin single about 3 years ago and nuthin since.

That asteroids single was deadly alright and Delakota's "C'mon Cinncinati" single remains one of my all-time faves.
There was also a great act from years (and years) back from Freaky Realistic that i always wondered what happened to. Another great band destined for the shadows are Sweetback (Sade's backing band who released two fine fine albums on their own).
Irish acts - I loved that carlow band The Castanedas and always thought they would do better than they did. I hear one of them (the drummer) is now a fairly well-respected artist in New York.

It was also a cover. It was originally a Joe South song altough the most famous version of the song was recorded by Deep Purple.
With regards to Krist Novoselic, he formed Sweet 75 who released their self titled album in 1997. More recently he popped up in Eyes Adrift who also released an eponymous debut in 2002.

I saw a book Krist Novoselic wrote recently. Michael Moore type cover. Can't remember what it was called - something softly political.

While we're on the subject of Irish acts that disappeared, anyone know what happened to an Irish big beat duo called Dirty Beatniks? I've got an album they released in 2000 called "Feedback". Its a bit patchy, but it has a couple of really good tracks, especially "Disco Dancing Machines", the video for which got a fair bit of airplay on No Disco at the time.

Catatonia - lead singer Cerys released a not-bad countryish album in 2003 or 2004
Into Paradise - disbanded. think the lead singer is back fixing televisions in Churchtown in Dublin
Marxman - disbanded. Oisin Lunny made some great records as Firstborn, a great stomper called "The Mood Club"
The Revenants - there was talk of a Stars of Heaven reunion (the band some of the Revenents were in before) but nothing came of it. Stephan Ryan is one of the Ireland's most under-appreciated songwriters
Toasted Heretic - lead singer Julian Gough became an author. Good debut novel Juno & Juliet

Disco Dancing Machines was a wicked tune but only the producer or 'beatmaker' was irish, I think. Speaking of big beat, whatever happened to 'lo fidelity allstars.' I loved 'how to operate...' and there were a couple of decent tracks on the last one. Their cover of 'battleflag' is still one of my fave party tunes.

What about the band Big bag of sticks? Or The Pale? Where are you now? Or at the very least, where the flip can I buy some of your old albums?
Also a band from Cork that I had an ep of, the Orange Fetishes....
If anyone has any clues please do tell!
