Forgetting about the fact that Westlife get the cover again this week I have to voice my yukkedness at the Frames related pish that fills every single issue. I think they are a great band but every issue for the last 5 months has had a massive splurge on them. I mean this week another bloody gig review. why? why? why? It annoys me to the point where I'm actually starting to despise the band and certainly the mag. You might just agree?

Yeah I agree f**k HOT PRESS it does not stand for anything anymore it is just a piece of s**t publication that features the same artists every week. Every time I have bought the magazine I have regreted it. When is the last time HOT PRESS have helped any upcomming Irish bands. They dont want to know about them, but you can be sure as soon as a Irish band gets signed HOT PRESS would be the first in line to lick their hole. Quite Simply PUT IT IN THE BIN. THE CRAFTY BINMAN

methinks if you want to help out a decent new irish music mag you should spend your hard earned on "foggy notions" instead of hot press. issue one was beautifully presented, well written and had a fine cover cd full of unsigned irish bands. hot press is toss.

It's on the counter of a few of the smaller record shops around Dublin City Centre (think in City Discs in Temple bar/Spin Dizzy) and in Tower records etc - it's not too choc of content though - but at least its not full of figgin' ads

In fairness it's thewestlife on the codver that is annoying or the colum inches given to the Frames each week which could go to up and coming acts, but in fairness there are some Hot Press writers that are always willing to champion the up and coming bands when its not in their interests and credit where its due fair play to them.

That so right about Hotpress, I nearly died when I saw Westlife on the f***ing cover! And who was it a couple of months ago, f***ing Avril Livigne! Like what are they at? And you're right, they don't help promote new music, like in the Westlife issue there was an interview with Hot Hot Heat that was blurbed on the cover to highlight its importance..but they failed to tell us that the interview took place nearly 2months ago, I only know that cos the interviewer is talking to him backstage at Whelans and I was at that gig over the May bank holiday weekend! Like thats so old! If you want something different, something that truly promotes new Irish music, that doesn't endorse s**te for corporate profits (like why do Hotpress keep running 'features' on how great Club M is? Ooh, maybe cos they're getting loads of dosh to promote the most scumbag club in the city)then, my friends, you should log on to www.irismagazine.net, for REAL scribblings, on real music. xxx red "its getting harder and harder to look at you, so it helps to have a mirror in the room" (white stripes)

Foggy Notions is excellent but needs much wider distribution

Waow, everybody here certainly seems to have a problem with Hotpress. Well, I'm glad because that means we're all on the same wavelength. I think they've just been overpriced celebrity crap for years and it bugged me so much that I decided to do something about it. Check out www.getagig.ie I just opened it and I'm populating the database with local Irish artists and venues - not football stadiums with a stage at one end. All feedback is welcome (good & bad) and get in touch with me if you feel the need. Spread the link around to all yer mates too. Peace
