Check out our own Una's blog on oxegen line up

    http://unarocks.blogspot.com/2007/02/is-this-oxegen-line-up.html

Interpol and Bloc and the artics would be great, but its a slightly uninspiring line up. Ive not yet decided whether to catch any of them this year or to just head off into the sunset for a foreign one...

I got an early bird cause I knew i'd probably end up going. they're bound to have 4 or 5 good acts that i'd see if they did their own show in dublin so why not see them at oxegen

Because I don't like having a topless sunburnt bogboy in a pink cowboy hat, on his first weekend away on the lash, pissing onto my tent.

Bjork and Tori Amos and Chemical Brothers for ze Picnic methinks. Basically every giant band in the universe is playing Oxegen though. I heard they're using new technology to ressurect Kurt Cobain to headline the new band tent on Sunday.

we could go down the "how electric picnic f**ked up what was a potentially great unique festival" route again like we did last year... by either pandering to commercial tastes too much or by having the wrong people choosing the bands, that's exactly what Aiken / POD did in 2006... and it'll be worse this year... meanwhile oxegen are moving slightly more left field having learnt a lesson... and hey presto - we have two generic looking lineups (even if EP is a much better vibe for the moment)

The line up for EP was great last year. The festival itself was a stunning success. Oxegen might have a better line up on paper than GLasto but I'd know where I would rather me.

You only get to see a couple of bands per day. Most of the headliners are going to clash

I was gonna go for one day to see Arcade Fire, but it'd cost about €150 in total, which is crazy and would pay for a 3 day festival in Europe. Nah.

I love this blurb for Baby Shambles: "Will he or won't he Whether or not the bad boy of rock will bring his supermodel girlfriend to this year's OXEGEN is yet to be seen but his band are guaranteed to put on a show you won't want to miss"

    Says a lot, I think...

From today's independent regarding increase in ticket prices:

CONCERT promoter MCD has strongly defended ticket price rises for this year's highly anticipated Oxegen festival.

The good news for music fans yesterday was confirmation of a stellar line-up of acts including Muse, Snow Patrol, Daft Punk, Arcade Fire, Bloc Party and Razorlight.

But the bad news was a significant jump in prices, with the most popular ticket, two-day camping, jumping from €160 to €197.50. A single-day ticket has also risen, from €69.50 to €96.50.

MCD pointed out that a significant proportion of the increase is because of a Revenue Commission clampdown on unpaid VAT which, for example, adds €21.60 to the price of a two-day camping ticket.

    Opportunity

"Up until 31 December 2006, all fans had the opportunity to purchase tickets for Oxegen 2007 at 2006 prices," a spokesman for MCD said. "Oxegen was the first-ever event to offer this type of discount."

He added that the two-day ticket prices had risen only 4pc when inflation was factored in. "It is worth noting that to see Muse at Wembley London costs €60, while an Oxegen weekend ticket (no camping) with over 100 international acts costs only €177.50, which clearly demonstrates the great value for money Oxegen is for fans," he said.

I don't know about others but I don't think the price is too bad....Okay sure its cheaper elsewhere in europe. But if im going to pay 200 odd quid and get to see four or five great acts then i'm happy.

im happy with the line up so far.... Interpol obviously being the deciding factor in whether or not i was gonna bother my ass going... but with Tori Amos, CSS, Klaxons, Amy Winehouse, Arcade Fire and Daft Punk...... its gonna be deadly. I'm not gonna camp tho....as much as getting up and back for both days is a melter i cant bring myself to relieve the scum infested pool that was that campsite of two years ago.......... never mind last year!

Oxegen isn't full of knackers, it's full of kids. This is coming from someone who went to Hi:Fi last year.

    The Oxegen line-up is brilliant.

No interest in going to Oxegen, no matter what the lineup is, i've been there and done that.
I bought an EP ticket which is up around the 200euro mark too. By the way if you are going to EP the price of the ticket is going to go up another bit so might be worth buying now if you have the cash

"Please note that there will be a very slight increase in ticket price (not much we promise!) when the official tickets go on sale towards end of March so this is your chance to avail of the cheaper early bird rate."

Anyway enough of that, whats all this about MCDs new 3 day festival in June, anyone got any news on that, seems to be very hush hush, read something about it in the Sindo. And what happened to Radiohead, were they not rumoured for Oxegen or are they being slotted into MCDs new festival??

Got my EP ticket too, but they're gone off sale already, so late advice! They'd better get the Polyphonic Spree, or I'll be angry!

Is that festival supposed to be in June? I heard it was replacing Hi-Fi, so August maybe? Seems late now, if it's June and it's brand new.

Also don't know where the Radiohead rumour came from. Can't see them coming here again without an album..

Loads of people have said this, but so far it really isn't!

Arcade Fire are the only big deal for me, and Klaxons are probably the only other band I'd even pop along to. I hope it stays like this, or else I'll feel like I'm missing something.

    I'm scouting the Eurofessssts.

Can't find the article in the online Sindo but from what I remember it said it was a new festival from MCD in June in some country house place/castle in co. kildare. It's being kept very hush hush until they get planning approval but apparently its MCDs rival to EP. I guess if its June that would mean an older profile as all the kids would be studying.....

Promoter Denis Desmond thanked fans for making OXEGEN 2007 another sell out success. He said: 'Now in its fourth year OXEGEN is more popular than ever. It's testament to the festival's great reputation, amazing line-up, and fun, friendly atmosphere that it continues to sell out year after year. Looking forward to a great weekend.'

and now there is talk that Latitude, the English EP, is going to come to Ireland this year, namely to Belvedere house.

It's run by Mean Fiddler, which is 49.9% owned by MCD

Well remember that Hi-Fi had versions in the north and south of england as well last year and that there's been feck all talk of it here so far for this year. BTW does anyone have any info on getting tickets for foreign fests, namely Summercase and Benicassim in Spain? They're on back to back weekends in July and although the lineups don't inspire very much so far I'd say it'd make a nice change from Poxegen/Electric Shit-tent (personal joke). Oh and why in the hell is there no Oxegen forum up? Surely has nothing to do last year's debacle

Nice ploy. Would I be right in thinking this "discount" was just a few thousand token tickets so soften the blow for such a big price hike.

Has anybody heard what the line up for Benicassim in Spain is going to be? Its normally along the same lines as Oxegen but guaranteed sun, fun and three days of a beach party!! SOunds like a better option to the "15yr old scumbag types stealing your tent" crowd that Oxegen normally brings. And the price is nice too!! Thanks!

I remember reading an article (I presume from The Ticket, about 2yrs ago) saying that (it appears to be happening) Oxegen would get more leftfield & EP would get more commercial leaving us with 2 similar festivals as opposed to 2 festivals catering to different audiences ...

    el facto.....

"The Beastie Boys doing their first Irish show in over a decade; the recently reformed Iggy And The Stooges, incidentally this will be their only UK/Ireland performance this year; a rare live outing by the wonderful Bjork; ex-Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker; a hark back to 1980s punk-pop with The Jesus And Mary Chain; cutting edge dance-rock from LCD Soundsystem (who have just released one of the albums of the year); the newly resurgent Primal Scream; the first ever Irish show by the Damon Albarn-led The Good, The Bad and The Queen; Modest Mouse, the dramatic Polyphonic Spree and the eminently adaptable Craig Armstrong; Soul II Soul - who are arriving over with a 12 piece band and string section in tow! Plus Paul Hartnoll’s The Ideal Condition and the return of the Dublin Gospel Choir who will be there to redeem your souls on Sunday morning"

It's all about Primavera for me too - flights, accommodation and tickets all in the bag. Would love to go to the ATP festival in England but I think it's sold out

I remember reading an article (I presume from The Ticket, about 2yrs ago) saying that (it appears to be happening) Oxegen would get more leftfield & EP would get more commercial leaving us with 2 similar festivals as opposed to 2 festivals catering to different audiences ...

nah mully... that was me that wrote that... if jim carroll wrote it, he nicked it off me (i'm so unoriginal usually that i tend to remember when i come up with something)... wouldn't be the first time he's got his column from irish music message boards...

that said, i quite like the look of the ep lineup... maybe the fact that they kept getting outbid by oxegen will help them (especially if they have canny bookers - the key)...

    beastie boys
    bjork
    sonic youth
    deerhoof
    electrelane
    keiron hebdon and steve reid
    modest mouse
    fujiya an miyagi

already looks better than last year...

Brian Wilson for Oxegen. I presume it will be the 'Smile' show.

Yeah, spot on. Brian Wilson is probably the weakest member of the Brian Wilson band. They're absolutely excellent live, but, if you're in the mood for Kasabian or t'Arctic Monkeys, then 'Surfin' USA' isn't going to do much for you.

Im sorry but I dont understand this thread! Are people actually attempting to compare that glorified teen disco Oxysham to EP? Sure i'm a little jealous that Daft Punk, Arcade Fire, Muse and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club are at Oxysham but come on! Having to listen to little girls screaming to the likes of Razors**te and the Kooks while being crushed against a barrier by a group of knackers and teenyboppers is something I am glad I will not endure this summer! They're two completely different festivals for two completely different strands of people! Oxysham is for shams, teenyboppers and what has been quoted in this thread already, Big sweaty sunburned country 'lads' who enjoy pissing on a tent because, due to the field-like surroundings, they are unable to understand that a world of music exists beyond the shelves of Golden Disks. EP is for people who like to ENJOY their music, get F*ked up and have a laugh with like minded people!

    Oxysham 06:

    225 arrests!

    EP:
    .....

I actually tried to find stuff! nothing! I heard of one person getting arrested for jumping the fence but thats it!

Im not saying all of the people who regularly make trips to oxegen are knackers or teenyboppers, thats just the unfortunate cross they have to bear to go, what im saying is that the festivals are and always will be for two completely different types of people and thats how it should be left! not compared by music or vibe or anything!

    Did someone say elitist snob?

I don't see how your thoughts on how EP attendees are just better people than those at
Oxegen are particularly relevant to a discussion on the bands playing at our 2 main music festivals.
Your insecurities and prejudices are probably best discussed elsewhere.

Ummm, comeback without a new album??

Zeitgeist is out in July. The single, Tarantula, is even on my local's jukebox, much to my excitement, and to the disgruntlement of the old men who frequent the place on a monday night!

And I've said it before and I'll say it again... I liked Zwan.
