3 Replies and 4007 Views disappointing albums of 2009  4007  3 Started by  Binokular Ok, bit of a negative thread title, overall 2009 has been great for albums, but there have been a few disappointments too. For me: Annie - Don't Stop: It's an accomplished pop album and 'Songs Remind me of You' is epic, but it seems a little underwhelming and late to its own fluxpop party which Annie spearheaded with Anniemal but has now been overtaken by the likes of La Roux and Little Boots, not to mention further newcomers biting at their heels like Marina and the diamonds. Shame reall...

19 Replies and 4837 Views Zavvi in administration.  4837  19 Started by  Binokular Looks like Zavvi could close. While it's hard to have much sympathy for such an annoyingly unimaginative retail chain who managed to take Virgin Megastores and make it even more bland, does anyone else find the possibility of a major record store disappearing from the streets a little sad Sure you can buy your music online, most of mine is purchased entirely digitally these days, but the eventual prospect of Tescos the only major shop you can buy CDs in is more than a little scary.

3 Replies and 3551 Views Worst Irish Album Cover Ever?  3551  3 Started by  aidan At the risk of being wrongly accused of Glen-bashing, it has to be the cover of the new Swell Season album, something which looks like it's from a Wolfe Tones tribute to the fallen volunteers of 1916. Awful.(I can't seem to insert the image but you can see it here: www.cluas.com/indie-music/Album_Rev...t-Joy.aspx)Can anyone beat this

How s**t is that They were an excellent band, one of the most exciting things to come out of Ireland in a few years in my opinion. Terrible pity.

9 Replies and 4137 Views What you're listening to: Oct 09  4137  9 Started by  aidan Out of curiosity from all the praise it's been getting in the UK and Irish media, I've been listening to Madness's new album, 'The Liberty of Norton Fulgate'. I like it, though it strains a bit to be the Sgt Pepper/Penny Lane of its genre and city. (In particular, the title track that ends the album is a clear tilt at 'A Day In The Life'). If you're not into music of West Indies extraction then you might find it dragging a little by half-time, but otherwise it's quite rich in detail. if you know...
