<Cue ecstatically atmospheric drum roll> Today CLUAS launches its MySpace page... at www.myspace.com/cluas !!!!! </Cue ecstatically atmospheric drum roll> Yes folks, even though we’re about 5 years after everyone else, we've finally gotten around to hitching a ride with MySpace. On our MySpace page we are - among other things - presenting each month 4 acts on the Irish scene who have been found guilty of creating exciting music, as judged by our writers. For each act of the 4 acts we present you can also check out an MP3 of theirs via the CLUAS MySpace media player thingy. So, the first four quality acts picked by the writers to feature on our MySpace page are...: • Channel One • The Chapters • Delorentos • Roller/Sparkers There’ll be another 4 acts picked in a month’s time. The plan is also to archive on the CLUAS ‘mother’ site the selected acts (and their MP3s) after their month of, er, CLUAS MySpace glory has come to an end. So check it out (please be aware though that is clearly still a work in progress) - http://www.myspace.com/cluas And if you (or your band) have a MySpace account, feel free to do the sign-up-to-be-a-friend-of-CLUAS thing: Please note that only 2 of the 4 intended MP3s have at the time of writing been successfully uploaded. See other thread I have started on this problem (and if you know your MySpace, then head over to the thread and maybe help us sort out the mystifying problem we’re having in these uploading the 3rd and 4th MP3s – see the thread here: http://www.cluas.com/discussion/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=6875 ). eoghan

just saw this on another forum: Myspace terms have changed which give them rights to use your music even after removing it... http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/05/03/myspace_terms/ Approximately 68m people use MySpace as a personal exhibition space and networking club. Many of these would have originally agreed to terms and conditions, (retained by Freechildsafeweb), that give the website non-exclusive rights to use the material they display there, but only while they keep it there. "This license will terminate at the time you remove such content from the website," the old terms read. However, new terms introduced after News Corp's acquisition of MySpace, extend the website's rights over any content their users upload. They give MySpace "non-exclusive, fully-paid and royalty-free" worldwide license and sub-licensing rights "to use, copy, modify, adapt, translate, publicly perform, publicly display, store, reproduce, transmit, and distribute" any matter posted by its users, including "messages, text, files, images, photos, video, sounds, profiles, works of authorship, or any other materials". "Content posted by you may remain on the MySpace.com servers after you have removed the content from the services, and MySpace.com retains the rights to those copies," it adds.

I think the T&Cs of MySpace have actually changed since this article was written, and that MySpace no longer claim such 'ownership' over content hosted on MySpace (including songs). This quote is from (what appears to be a subesquenmttly added footnote to) the same story: "...Updated terms that are dated 1 May remove the right for the web site to keep matter published by its users for as long as they like, doing with it what they like. The terms now include a reference that will remove MySpace's right to the content when the user pulls their matter from the site,..." eoghan

Just to let you know that this problem has been resolved. I last night managed to upload the Delorentos and The Chapters tracks to the CLUAS MySpace page so a track from all 4 chosen acts is now accessible on: http://www.myspace.com/cluas eoghan

I doubt it. Most of the regular posters (I wouldn't include me as one really) seem to like the format and the crowd here. I haven't set up a Myspace acct as I always thought it was somewhat creepy for a 30something single guy to have an acct on a site mainly populated by jailbait age girls but oh well, let the sinking into depravity begin.

Now time for a quick favour to those of you who have a MySpace profile and have done the become-a-friend-of-CLUAS thing. Can I ask you to consider moving CLUAS to your top 8 'Friends' so that CLUAS appears on your main MySpace page, and we become more visible that way (at least more visible to people hitting your MySpace page)? If you do so and would also like yourself to be moved to the 'First 8 friends' of CLUAS in return, no probs, just drop me a mail. Just want, with your help, to raise the visibility of CLUAS in the MySpace ecosystem. Cheers. eoghan
